The release of a dove to celebrate baptism has    become quite popular. Usually one dove is released     for christenings, although with Twins or more, one     Dove per child is released.

The tradition of who should release the dove during
a christening depends on the age of the child being baptized. If the child is at least 5 years old, then he/she releases the dove him/herself; if the child is still a baby, the dove is released by one of his/her godparents.

In the New Testament the dove is found as a symbol     of the Holy Spirit. When John the Baptist announced    the coming of Jesus as he baptized the people,
“the Holy Spirit descended on him
in bodily form
like a dove…”
(Luke 3:22).
